Selena Gomez’s New Album Was Inspired By Christina Aguilera’s ‘Stripped’
Selena Gomez’s new era is shaping up nicely. With minimal promotion, lead single “Good For You” has climbed all the way to number six on the Billboard Hot 100 and been certified platinum. It’s particularly impressive given the former Disney diva’s radical change in sound. So, what can we expect from the rest of Revival? According to a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, a cohesive body of work that was influenced by pop heavyweights like Janet Jackson, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.
“I grew up with Britney and NSYNC and Janet and all those people,” Selena revealed. “I would buy the copy, read the thank yous, and I felt like I knew them. Christina’s Stripped was one of my favorites. What I loved about Revival is that it felt like there was a fluid story.” It’s interesting that she singled out Xtina’s sophomore LP, which is the touchstone for young female artists taking control of their body, image and sound.
“I’ve lived such a public life that I understand that I’m under a microscope,” Selena said. “That has taken me into so many different phases. It’s made me depressed and it’s made me happy and it’s made me grateful and humble — but [I’ve learned] it’s okay to let down my walls with my music, to feel sexy and good.” Revival drops October 11. Second single “Same Old Love” should arrive in the next couple of weeks.
